Domaine la Rouillère Grande Réserve Rosé
Côtes de Provence · France · 37.5 cl · 12%
Fragrant, zesty lemon/lime fruit nose with delightful hints of fresh spring blossom. This elegantly textured, fine Riesling has beautiful length and finishes with crisp, yet soft acidity. A light spritz provides brightness.
Sydney Hamilton planted the 6 acre (2.6 ha) Riesling vineyard in 1974 and the estate have now completed a restructuring of the vineyard to sustain it over the next 40 or more years.Coonawarra had an excellent vintage in 2024. Winter rainfall was below average and temperatures more mild resulting in early budburst. November and December provided the moisture needed to sustain the vines through what was otherwise a much drier than average ripening season. No rain was received in February and temperatures were relatively mild for that time of year. Harvest dates were in line with long term averages with whites ready in early-March and reds from late March to mid-April. Fruit flavour is a standout with good natural soft acidity in Riesling and Chardonnay and medium to full body in reds which show both power and elegance.
Harvesting took place in the cold early morning and grapes were placed in an air-bag press within minutes of picking. This single batch of free-run juice was cold settled and cool fermented with some light solids using an aromatic yeast to enhance its fragrant fruit aromas. Following fermentation, the wine was allowed to settle on its yeast lees then ultimately received a light fining to aid clarification.
